Notes - 6/2/12 at 6pm at the church
Those in attendance: Kevin, Brian, JoAnn, Brad F. & Jenice
- Thank you everyone who helped at the Amana Faire. It was a
big success! We brought in money, got several people interested in our group,
and had fun doing it. I hope even more members can attend the Des Moines
Renaissance Faire. We will be attending either 2 or 3 weekends...just waiting
to hear back from Greg on which ones. Please mark your calendars to prepare:
September 1-3, 8-9, & 15-16 from 10am-6pm rain or shine at Festival Park in
Sleepy Hollow Sports Park. Although we are not going to be paid for this
event, this will still be a great opportunity to make some money for the group
and get our name out there to potential members. Excess monies made at the
faires we attend can in turn be spent on group supplies such as: shinaies,
materials for talberds, leather, paints, wood, etc. Also, please be thinking
of things you would like to do while at the Des Moines faire. At the Amanas,
some chain mail, leatherwork, painting of shields/crests, and sewing were done
on the side that people could watch us do and ask questions about, but the
main focus was on sword demonstrations/fighting. I want to make sure that all
members get a chance to participate (whether they choose to swing a sword or
not) and work on the things that interest them, even designating a time for
the public to be able to watch/learn from you if that's what you want. For
those solely interested in using weapons, how do you feel about adding new
wooden weapons: axe, spear, mace, staff, etc?
- Something to think about - Are you interested in doing
some other events around town? If so, let Kevin know, as he is looking into
some things to do.
- Warwick now has elite pricing at Tandy Leather Supplies.
Let Kevin or Brian know if you are interested in getting supplies there.
- Upcoming plans - We are going to have a get together at
Gray's Lake on Sat. 6/23 at noon to grill out, do some arts and science
activities, and do weapons practice. Please bring meat for yourself, a side
dish to share and whatever craft you would like to work on/teach other members
- With the exception of the first Saturday of each month
being the member's meeting and the upcoming picnic/grill out on 6/23, sword
practices will continue to be held on Tuesdays and Saturdays at the church
from 6-8pm. I still have not received any work about when the
pirates/renaissance division would like to each plan a practice.
- Ideas/concerns brought up:
*Can we take another look at the level requirements to
become a knight, etc. to assure that they are timely/realistic with what our
group is currently doing?
*Our next "get together" should be to do archery/hatchet
